Christine Brown did not stay quiet after Sister Wives aired the photo scene. Within a day, she was back on Instagram — twice — explaining why one moment from Season 21, Episode 2 still had her upset. And instead of settling the argument, her videos split the fandom wide open.
The scene itself was simple. Christine, Meri Brown and Janelle Brown sat down to look through old family photos, and Meri and Janelle suggested recreating an old portrait of the three wives. Christine said no. On the episode, she explained that the old photo brought back the “hierarchy of wives” and the feeling that she had always been placed last.
“I was just last. I was put on the bottom,” she said on the show.
The Video That Started the Second Fight
Days after the episode premiered, Christine posted a video with her husband, David Woolley, saying she had been “mad for days” about how the scene was portrayed. “I’ve been fuming about it for a while,” she said, according to People. Her complaint was not only about the photo itself, but about the edit: she felt the episode did not give her room to explain how she felt.
“When I didn’t want to recreate the photo, it’s because I felt like I was once again being put on the bottom, and I feel like I’m not even being given the opportunity in the episode to talk about how I feel,” she said. “It’s like I’m being put on the bottom once again by this whole situation.”
Christine went further than the photo. She said the old family dynamic was full of favoritism, saying, “There was favoritism in our family, there was all kinds of games. So many games were played all around the board.” She also said each of the wives had felt like a “basement wife” at times — pushed below the others, not just once, but again and again.

David did not play the quiet supporting husband in the video. He called it “bulls—” that Meri had her friends talk about Christine, and he pushed back hard on Meri’s wish to stay connected to Kody Brown’s children through the other wives.
“Last time I checked, one is still at home and the rest are all adults so they can have their own relationships,” David said, according to People. “If anybody’s acting like Kody, Meri, you’re acting like Kody. You sit there and act like you have to go through these women to have a relationship. Sorry, but you don’t have to go through them to have a relationship.”
Christine backed his point in her own words: “Why would I recreate a photo with Janelle and Meri that makes us look like a unit? We’re not a unit, why would I pretend to be a unit with Meri and Janelle when I’m a unit with David?”
Fans Push Back: “Did We Watch the Same Episode?”
That is where the fandom split. A lot of viewers who watched the episode said Christine had it wrong — and they said so in the comments, as reported by Parade.
“What? Did we watch the same episode? Meri and her friends never talked ‘shit’ about Christine. They were just asking questions and trying to understand both sides,” one person wrote.
“I’m confused, I didn’t think Meri’s friends were talking bad about Christine and the photo situation. I felt like they were trying to help Meri understand how Christine could be feeling,” a second viewer shared.
A third was blunter: “This is a wild take. You’ve done nothing but talk badly about Meri and how you won’t associate with her.”
Christine’s Second Video: “Am I the Villain?”
Christine returned to Instagram on Sunday with a second video, saying she worries the season makes her look like a villain. She described herself as someone learning to speak up after years of holding back, and credited David with helping her feel supported. She also admitted her emotions can come out awkwardly and said she is still trying to find balance.
But according to Parade, the follow-up did not win the doubters over. “Christine, yesterday’s video was bizarre and David speaking for you was uncalled for,” one fan wrote in the comments. Another suggested: “An apology to Meri (private is fine) and taking down the other video would go farther. The video yesterday made me really question your narrative these past few years.”
For her part, Meri has not responded to Christine’s videos in these reports. In the episode itself, Meri said it was unfortunate the photo brought up those feelings for Christine, and that she felt bad about it.
Why This Fight Is Bigger Than One Photo

Strip away the Instagram drama, and the argument is really about two different memories of the same family. Christine remembers a pecking order where she was always last. Meri remembers a friendship she is still trying to repair — and, as she explained in a separate episode moment covered earlier this week, a marriage she stayed in far longer than fans realized.
Neither side is likely to give ground, because both women are describing how the past felt to them, not a fact anyone can settle with a screenshot. That is exactly why this photo — a picture that was never even retaken — has turned into one of the loudest fights of Season 21 so far.
So, whose side are you on? Was Christine right to refuse the photo and say what the “hierarchy” cost her — or did her videos, and David’s outburst, go too far? Tell us in the comments.
