90 Day Fiancé’s Stephanie Matto Claims She Secretly Dated a U.S. Senator — Here’s Everything We Know

There is no 90 Day Fiancé alum with a résumé quite like Stephanie Matto’s. She went from TLC’s first same-sex couple to selling jars of her own farts for more than $200,000 — and now she claims she secretly dated a U.S. senator who paid her thousands just to watch her eat on camera. Here’s everything we know.

The Allegations: A Secret Year and a Half With a U.S. Senator

According to Matto, the relationship began about a year and a half before her first bombshell TikTok. She alleged that a sitting U.S. senator — whom she has never named — paid her for “virtual dates” and the chance to watch her eat food on camera. She dropped clues instead of a name: his burner social media account, she said, used a photo of a fish because he is “big into bass fishing.”

The story escalated in April 2025, when Matto said she had received three cease-and-desist letters from the senator’s lawyers and claimed he had threatened to have one of her immigrant family members deported after fans started guessing his identity from her clues. She said she planned to leave the United States for the Czech Republic because she no longer felt safe.

One important note: critics have repeatedly accused Matto of inventing the whole thing for attention. No senator has ever been publicly identified, and no independent outlet has verified her claims. What we can say for sure is that Matto has stuck to the story — and her followers can’t stop talking about it.

The Fart-Jar Fortune That Made Her Famous

Before the senator claims, there were the jars. In late 2021 and early 2022, Matto went viral for selling her farts in jars online, reportedly earning more than $200,000 before she retired the business — blaming the gas-inducing diet for landing her in the hospital. It was a business model nobody else in reality TV had dared to touch.

A $3 Million Second Act

Matto didn’t fade after the jars. According to TVShowsFinder, she published her second book, Empty Blood: My Epic Journey From Battling a Blood Disorder to Selling Farts in Jars, in 2024, built a YouTube channel with more than 370,000 subscribers, and revealed on her Creator Academy website that she earned $3 million on Unfiltrd and OnlyFans alone. Love the hustle or hate it, those are numbers few reality stars ever touch.

Where It All Started: Stephanie and Erika

Long before all of this, Matto debuted on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days Season 4 back in 2020 alongside Erika Owens — the franchise’s first same-sex couple. She came out as bisexual on the show, telling ET at the time that it felt like the gutsy way to stop living “one foot out the closet and one foot in.” The romance didn’t last: the two broke up during the season after constant issues.
