Whitney Thore, star of My Big Fat Fabulous Life, has recently opened up about her journey to motherhood and the process of choosing a sperm donor. In the latest episode of the series, she shared that her priorities were not focused on appearance but rather on intellect and character, explaining simply, “I wanted someone educated.”
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Whitney outlined the qualities she looked for. First, she wanted a donor with no genetic health issues in order to give her child the best chance at a healthy future. Height was another factor; since Whitney is only 5’2, she preferred that the donor be at least 5’7, hoping this would give her child the opportunity to be average or taller in stature.
Beyond these criteria, Whitney made it clear that she was not concerned with race, eye color, or hair color. Instead, she placed much more value on intellectual qualities, such as advanced education or the ability to speak multiple languages. For her, these traits were far more meaningful than physical features.
Reflecting on her decision, Whitney admitted that she once imagined having children the traditional way, alongside a partner. Yet, as time passed and circumstances changed, she decided to take control of her own path. In her words, the choice to move forward on her own was both empowering and liberating, as it allowed her to reclaim agency over her future.
More importantly, Whitney also wanted to use her platform to address the stigma surrounding fertility and women’s choices. She expressed disappointment at the judgment many women face, but she hoped that by sharing her story, others would feel less isolated or ashamed about their own struggles.
