Welcome to Plathville is officially returning for Season 7 on July 22, and this time the focus will shift to Ethan Plath’s new relationship following his split from ex-wife Olivia Plath.
Ethan and Olivia tied the knot in 2018, but after five years of marriage, they publicly announced their decision to part ways.
Reflecting on their breakup, Olivia said:
“Ethan and I have decided to go our separate ways. I have mixed emotions when I look back at us being just 18, innocently dreaming of a forever together. But I’ve come to realize that the partner you choose often reflects the world you want to live in — and at 18, I didn’t yet know who I was or what kind of life I wanted to build. Seven years later, I’ve already started the journey of questioning, deconstructing, and rebuilding myself, and I know that’s a path I will continue to prioritize throughout my life.”
In his own statement, Ethan shared,
“Olivia and I have parted ways. It just didn’t work between us, though Lord knows we both gave it everything we had. It felt like we were always pulling each other in opposite directions, chasing different dreams and wanting different things out of life.”
So what really led to their split?
Keep reading for everything we know about the relationship struggles that drove Ethan and Olivia apart.
Why did Ethan and Olivia Plath split?
Some of Ethan and Olivia’s biggest issues stemmed from her differences with his conservative family. “When we were dating, I knew that I was being controlled in what we were allowed to do, what we’re allowed to say,” Olivia told Us Weekly in 2017. “I remember the night it clicked for me was the night we got engaged.”
She recalled Ethan’s mom, Kim Plath, waiting up for the couple. “She, like, grabbed my hand and looked at the ring, and the first thing she said was, ‘Oh, I want to trade rings with you. And I was like, ‘Okay, that’s really weird.’” She claimed Kim began treating the wedding “as if it was hers.”
Olivia opened up about the early red flags in her relationship with Ethan’s family, sharing,
“[Kim] basically told me what we were going to be doing,” Olivia recalled. “That was the moment I realized, ‘I don’t want to be controlled like this.’ I never even got the chance to tell my mom I was engaged before [Kim] posted it online. That’s how my mom found out.”
The tension only grew after Ethan and Olivia got married.
“It became a pattern — [Kim] tried to make a lot of decisions for me,” Olivia explained. “I had just left my parents’ house and was trying to figure out who I was, and I didn’t want anyone making choices for me anymore.”
Another major source of conflict was where they wanted to live. While Ethan was happy staying in his family’s small hometown in rural Georgia, Olivia longed to leave and experience life in the city. During Season 3 of Welcome to Plathville, Olivia even moved out of their marital home.
Eventually, they tried to compromise by relocating — first to Tampa, and later to Minnesota — but Olivia’s strained relationship with Ethan’s family only worsened. Over time, the couple also came to realize they simply weren’t as compatible as they once believed.
“When we first got married, we were pretty much on the same page,” Ethan reflected during Season 5. “Political beliefs, religious beliefs — and now, we’re on opposite ends of the book.”
Are Ethan and Olivia Plath Officially Divorced?
Although Olivia and Ethan filed for divorce in February 2024 and even signed the papers on an episode of Welcome to Plathville that aired in August, Olivia revealed in April 2025 that the divorce still isn’t finalized.
“He filled [the papers] out incorrectly,” Olivia claimed in a TikTok video. She also shared that she tried to contact Ethan to sort things out, but he had blocked her on social media.
Who Is Ethan Plath Dating Now?
Ethan has moved on and is now dating Teegan Nichols. He went public with their relationship in January 2025.

Ethan once shared his excitement about his new relationship in a now-deleted Instagram post, writing:
“Proud to introduce my sweet girlfriend! She truly is one of the sweetest, kindest, and most patient people I’ve ever known. I’m looking forward to the next year and everything it brings. Wishing everyone a very happy new year! Here we go, 2025!”
In her April TikTok, Olivia revealed that Ethan eventually unblocked her and told her they needed to finalize the divorce “immediately.” According to Olivia, the sudden urgency came because Ethan had gotten engaged.
“Imagine proposing to someone and saying, ‘Will you become my wife?’ and she says yes — and then you realize, ‘Oh, I still have to legally divorce my other wife first,’” Olivia said.
However, Us Weekly reported that Ethan and Teegan were not actually engaged.
Fans can expect to see more of Ethan and Teegan’s relationship featured in Season 7 of Welcome to Plathville.
Is Olivia Plath in a Relationship Now?
In 2024, Olivia introduced her boyfriend, Brendan, during an episode of Welcome to Plathville. However, the current status of their relationship remains unclear, and fans have speculated that the two may have already broken up.
