I Love a Mama’s Boy star Matt McAdams is officially off the market! The TLC personality announced his engagement on Tuesday, November 26 — and now he’s sharing exclusive details with In Touch about his romantic proposal, his mystery fiancée, and whether his famously close-knit mom, Kelly McAdams, gave her seal of approval.
“I told my family ahead of time. They all knew,” Matt revealed. “We were going to Italy. I called my fiancée’s family, asked her dad for permission, and had those important conversations. I told my family, ‘This is it … I’m going to propose in Italy.’”
Fans of the show know that Kelly has been a major figure in Matt’s life since season 1, and thankfully, her reaction to the engagement news was a positive one.
Matt McAdams is looking ahead to an exciting future with his fiancée — though he’s still keeping her identity private for now. In his interview with In Touch, the I Love a Mama’s Boy star opened up about their shared dreams of building a life together.
“We want to start a family,” Matt shared. “So, we’ll probably try to get pregnant within the first year of being married. There’s just so much happening right now.”
While Matt is focused on his future, he admits there’s still some concern when it comes to his famously involved mother, Kelly. Fans of the show know Kelly has had a history of inserting herself into Matt’s past relationships, and Matt acknowledges that the dynamic hasn’t been without its challenges.
“There are times when I think my mom worries that maybe she’s being replaced,” he explained. “But I think it’s just part of the natural evolution of things. It’s been a big year for the family, for sure.”
Matt also revealed that his relationship began in a modern way — he met his fiancée on the dating app Hinge, marking the start of this new chapter in his life.
Reflecting on how he met his now-fiancée, Matt McAdams didn’t hold back about the challenges of modern dating. “Dating these days feels like digging through a dumpster looking for an unopened bag of chips — it’s brutal out there,” he joked. After going on a string of unsuccessful dates, Matt wasn’t expecting much when he matched with his future fiancée.
“We talked about grabbing a drink, but then she ghosted me for about two weeks,” Matt recalled with a laugh. “I figured I’d never hear from her again.”
But to his surprise, she eventually circled back and asked if his offer to grab drinks still stood — and of course, he said yes.
“At that point, I thought, ‘Why not? Let’s just see what happens.’ After so many failed dates, you kind of lose hope,” Matt admitted. “We went out for drinks and dinner, and honestly, I had such a great time that I asked to see her again the next night.”
Their second date led to trivia night and another dinner — and before long, Matt was already asking for a third date the very next evening.
“I just felt like I needed to get to know this girl — she was so interesting,” Matt shared. “There were so many little things about her that stood out, and honestly, even early on, I didn’t want to lose her.”
Their connection only grew stronger as they continued to see each other. “We went out on a few dates, and everything just felt right,” he added. “The first time she came over to my house was on Valentine’s Day. I cooked dinner for her, and from there, things just clicked between us.”
Now, Matt can’t help but gush about his soon-to-be wife, making it clear just how smitten he is as they prepare to build a future together.
“She’s everything I was looking for in a partner — supportive, kind, and I just find myself more and more grateful for her as time goes on,” Matt shared. Reflecting on their early days, he admitted that persistence played a big role in winning her heart. “After that first date, I just kept asking her out again and again. She’s even told me, ‘One of the things I liked about you was that you really pursued me.’”
Matt pointed out how dating culture has changed over the years. “She said, ‘Guys don’t really pursue women anymore. They’ve gotten lazy with dating.’ But with us, we never got lazy. We kept showing up for each other, and I think that’s what really helped us build something special.”
Matt shared the exciting news of his engagement with fans through Instagram, marking the next chapter in his life and love story.
“Dancing through life — the next chapter begins in 2025,” Matt McAdams captioned a series of sweet engagement photos, celebrating this exciting new milestone with his fiancée.
Matt first introduced his then-girlfriend on Instagram in March 2023, though at the time, she chose to keep her face hidden behind a Disneyland brochure in the photos. Alongside their snapshots, Matt reflected on how timing and fate played a role in bringing them together.
“God has such a way of bringing people into our lives when it’s time,” he wrote. “When things don’t work out as we planned, it’s when we stop asking why that we finally get the answer. Three days of exploring together, creating memories, and just spending time with each other. Can’t wait for the next adventure!”
While Matt’s fiancée has made a few low-key appearances on his Instagram since then, fans shouldn’t expect to see her on I Love a Mama’s Boy. In response to a fan’s question on a September post, Matt clarified: “No, she will not be [on the show]. She and I didn’t want her to have to go through the crap that comes with this. I hope people — and my exes — respect us, as we’re not bashing anyone this season. We’ll see, lol.”
