Mahesh Savani, a diamond tycoon in India, has been organizing mass weddings for thousands of fatherless brides. He also gives valuable gifts to help these brides start their married lives with ease. Savani has been organizing these weddings in Surat, India, for several years now.
The Significance of the Mass Weddings
All the brides who attend Savani’s mass weddings are fatherless. He believes that organizing these weddings for them is a blessing from God. This year’s ceremony saw 261 brides from different religions and backgrounds, with 118 having no siblings and 54 being orphans.
The wedding ceremony follows the Hindu tradition of Kanyadaan. Savani worked with the police and administrative authorities to ensure that the event went smoothly.
Gifts for the Newlyweds
In previous years, Savani has given couples gifts worth £5,600. However, this year, he and the organizers of the wedding gave newlyweds family items and a £2,300 insurance policy.
Savani’s Social Responsibility
Savani says that he feels a “social responsibility” towards women who cannot afford to pay for their weddings. In India, it is customary for the bride’s family to pay a portion of the dowry and gifts to the groom’s family, which is difficult for many families.
In traditional Indian families, the father of the bride is responsible for the wedding expenses. Unfortunately, if the father has passed away or is extremely poor, it is almost impossible to organize a wedding. Savani began this campaign in 2008 after the death of a relative. He then took on the responsibility of organizing the wedding for the relative’s daughter.
Mahesh Savani’s campaign to sponsor weddings for fatherless brides is a shining example of social responsibility. His efforts have helped over 3,172 brides start their married lives with ease, and his contributions have made a significant impact on their lives. His work reminds us that even small actions can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
