Deon Derrico Finally Comes Clean About His Love Life After Karen — And Fans Are Torn

For two years, fans of Doubling Down With the Derricos have asked Deon Derrico the same question in every comment section: are you ever getting back together with Karen? And for two years, the answer kept shifting — until this summer, when Deon finally sat down and told the full story of what happened between him and his ex-wife. His answer surprised just about everyone.

Because the Derricos didn’t just divorce in June 2024. They kept living under the same roof for nearly two more years — and what ended the experiment wasn’t what fans expected.

The Reunion Question He Kept Dodging

In an August 2025 Instagram Q&A, a fan asked Deon point-blank whether he and Karen were trying to reconcile. His reply sent the fandom into overdrive: “Honestly, we are,” he said, “but when I tell you, raising our large family is so esoteric that our main focus right now has been catering to their individual and collective needs.”

At the time, he also told The Sarah Fraser Show that neither he nor Karen was dating anyone, and that infidelity had nothing to do with the split — the breaking point, he said, was a blow-up over eldest daughter Darian’s college plans. Fans held onto the word “reconcile” like a promise. They had no idea what Deon wasn’t telling them.

The “Special Friend” Bombshell

In an exclusive Us Weekly interview this past June, Deon finally came clean. Karen, he said, had kept pressing him with the same question: was he seeing another woman? She told him she could handle the truth — so he gave it to her.

“Yes, my love interest does lie somewhere else,” he told her. Deon revealed he had a “special friend” in his life for about a year. Karen, he said, had her crying moment, but the conversation felt honest — “a kumbaya moment,” as he put it. “I told her it wasn’t her. We just grew apart. I’m not faulting anyone.”

It was the first time Deon had publicly admitted to dating anyone since the divorce — and it landed like a thunderclap in a fandom still hoping for a reunion.

April 2026: The Move-Out That Changed Everything

According to Deon, Karen decided it was best for her to move out — and he helped her do it on April 3, 2026. The very next day, he said, he discovered “a series of untruths” and confronted her about them. “Everything rapidly declined,” he recalled, saying he could sense “anger and hatred” in his ex after she moved out.

Tellingly, he also told Parade that Karen had wanted them to remarry — and that he wasn’t willing to go back. The failed reconciliation, the dueling protection orders, and eventually Karen’s June 2026 arrest (charges she has pleaded not guilty to, with her attorney claiming the evidence was fabricated) all trace back to that spring. These are allegations and contested claims, not established facts — but the love story, whatever it becomes, is now tangled in a courtroom one.

Where the Fandom Stands Now

The comments split three ways. The reunion camp refuses to let go — fans still write things like “please get back together, that’s my humble request” under Deon’s family videos. The new-chapter camp says Deon deserves happiness after 19 years of a marriage that clearly ended. And the biggest camp of all just says: forget the romance, think about the 14 kids watching all of this play out in public.

Deon himself has said the children remain his priority — the same line he and Karen used in their joint divorce statement: “we remain unified in the parenting of our 14 beautiful children.” The question is whether unity is even possible anymore.

So we’ll put it to you: should Deon and Karen find their way back to each other for the sake of the kids — or is Deon right that some doors should stay closed? Tell us honestly in the comments. Team reunion, team new chapter, or team “just protect the kids”?
