Amy Slaton Drops 200 Pounds and Shares Honest Weight Loss Advice: “Get Your Protein In and Exercise!”

Amy Slaton is proving that real change is possible — one determined step at a time.

The 38-year-old star of TLC’s 1000-lb Sisters has shed an impressive 200 pounds since undergoing gastric bypass surgery in 2019. In a recent Instagram Q&A session shared by TLC, Amy opened up to fans about her ongoing journey and offered straightforward, no-nonsense advice for anyone trying to get healthier.

“My best advice is to make sure you got your protein in and make sure you’re exercising,” she said. “Make sure you’re doing what the doctors tell you. I gave up every bad thing but now I indulge in gummy bears here and there.”

The Realities of Life After Major Weight Loss

Even with her impressive progress, Amy has been candid about the challenges that come with significant weight loss. In a recent episode, she admitted that being slimmer has actually made her more aware of lingering issues.

“Lately I’ve been doing so good on my weight loss,” Amy shared, “and now that I’m skinnier, it’s starting to bother me even more.”

During a bungee fitness class, she hilariously (and honestly) pointed out one major struggle: excess skin. “These harnesses were not meant for people with excess skin, I’ll tell you that,” she laughed. “My fat roll would go in between the strap and my leg.”

Amy also continues to deal with an eye condition caused by toxoplasmosis, which has led to speculation among fans that she may have undergone corrective surgery for her lazy eye. Many have praised her refreshed appearance, with one Reddit user saying it looks like she’s “a whole new person” and hoping the confidence boost helps with a longtime insecurity.

A New Chapter: Marriage and Motherhood

On a happier note, Amy is thriving in her personal life. She recently married her new husband, Brian Lovvorn (a sports journalist), in a fun Halloween-themed wedding at the Talbott Tavern in Bardstown, Kentucky. The couple met in 2024, got engaged after just five months, and tied the knot last year.

She shares two energetic sons — Gage Deon and Glenn Allen — with her ex-husband, Michael Halterman (they divorced in 2023).

Fan Reactions: Love, Skepticism, and Support

As expected with reality TV stars, Amy’s advice video sparked mixed responses. Some fans cheered her on with comments like “I LOVE YOU AMY! TEAM AMY” and “I love listening to you and your sister.” Others expressed hope that she and her family will return to the show soon.

Not everyone was convinced, with a few skeptical remarks questioning whether she’s the right person to give fitness tips. Still, the overwhelming sentiment from supporters remains positive and encouraging.

Amy’s journey — filled with ups, downs, honesty, and heart — continues to resonate with viewers who have followed her and sister Tammy through thick and thin.
