Ethan Plath in “Welcome to Plathville” season 7 episode 4

Zac explained that he and Lydia are waiting to share their first kiss, saying, “In the past, I’ve seen physical intimacy interfere with really getting to know someone, so we’re choosing a different approach.”

Just hours after Zac Wyse popped the question to Lydia Plath, her brothers Ethan and Micah sat him down to express their concerns about the whirlwind engagement on the latest episode of Welcome to Plathville.

On Tuesday, August 12, viewers saw Zac propose to Lydia after only two months of dating. Ethan, 27, had already voiced his doubts about how quickly their relationship was moving.

When Lydia, 21, arrived at the proposal spot, she greeted her family with hugs before walking toward Zac, 23. In that moment, Ethan made a final attempt to stop things, saying, “Please say no,” as Zac asked for Lydia’s hand in marriage.

A couple of hours later, after Lydia had accepted, Zac joined Ethan and Micah, 24, for a candid conversation about the engagement. Ahead of the sit-down, the brothers told cameras they planned to “feel [Zac] out and ask him some questions, and see if we can make him crack.”

In his confessional, Micah admitted he didn’t really know Zac at all. “I know my dad didn’t grill him that hard,” Micah said, “and I feel like maybe Ethan and I should.”

The scene cut back to Ethan and Micah discussing the new engagement, with Ethan noting, “Lydia’s like the whole world is in ministry in the church, and that’s wonderful.”

“But I don’t think that Zac and Lydia were divinely put together by God and there’s no one else. And it was just destined and intended to be,” Ethan continued.

“When in reality, it’s, it’s just a crush. And you’re probably making the crush bigger by not kissing or doing anything —” Micah said before Ethan cut him off.

“They don’t really know each other,” Ethan said. “I mean, like Lydia said, he’s a nice guy, but I mean, Lydia wouldn’t know any better.”

“Lydia’s like the sweetest person ever. I don’t want I don’t want her to change,” Micah said. “I don’t want to see Lydia get heartbroken at all.”

When Zac sat down with Lydia’s brothers after their private chat, Micah spoke first.

“As her older brother, I can see you make Lydia happy, and that’s important to me,” Micah told him. “But if I ever find out you hurt her, disappoint her, or let her down in any way, there will be consequences.”

Ethan then pressed Zac on why the relationship had escalated “so damn fast.” He warned, “In my opinion, there’s more to lose than to gain by rushing into marriage. I just don’t want to see Lydia end up hurt.”

Zac responded by explaining that he and Lydia built a strong connection during the five days she spent visiting him in Colorado. Still, Ethan wasn’t convinced. In his confessional, he scoffed, “I don’t know what kind of psychedelics you’re on, but the truth is, you only spent a week with her. I don’t like it. And I object.”

As the conversation went on, Ethan and Micah questioned Zac about his promise to save his and Lydia’s first kiss for their wedding day. Zac admitted that this wasn’t originally his plan, but explained, “Because of who Lydia is, it changed my heart. I realized it’s something I truly want to commit to in order to honor her… A lot of that ties back to the core beliefs we share in Jesus Christ.”

Ethan, however, wasn’t convinced. Speaking to the camera, he said he expected Zac to be more candid, perhaps admitting, “We said we’re going to wait for her first kiss, but honestly, I really want to.”

Later in a confessional with Micah, Ethan doubled down, arguing that Zac’s explanation wasn’t genuine. “I don’t think it’s honest to say you’re not kissing her because of the… seven fruits of whatever,” Ethan scoffed. “Oh, f— off, you big holy bastard. I think that’s a bulls— answer.”

“I just want to be sure that there’s real physical compatibility and passion between you two,” Ethan told Zac directly.

In his own confessional, Zac explained that he and Lydia made the choice to save their first kiss because, in past relationships, physical intimacy had become a distraction. “I’ve seen how it can get in the way of really getting to know someone, so we’re choosing to do things differently,” he shared.

Ethan, however, remained skeptical. “I’ve never in my life met a straight man who willingly gives up the chance to be intimate with a woman,” he said in his interview. “It just doesn’t make sense to me, especially for someone his age.”

Though Ethan acknowledged that everything Zac and Lydia had shared sounded “great and amazing,” he still had one burning question. As the episode closed, Ethan asked bluntly: “Are you gay?”
