Sofia Richie’s elegant and understated beauty look at her luxurious wedding in the French Riviera over the weekend is still on our minds. With a polished and natural makeup look created by makeup artist Pati Dubroff, who generously shared the exact products she used, Sofia’s hair stylist Kathleen Riley fashioned a delicate ballerina bun for the occasion, giving off a cool-girl vibe.
We reached out to Kathleen Riley to learn more about the style brief and how she came up with the final look. “For the whole weekend, we wanted to create something chic, timeless, and clean,” she told GLAMOUR. “Sofia is incredibly stunning, so keeping her hair off her face was definitely the way to go.” Kathleen curated a selection of hairstyles for Sofia throughout the weekend, including the rehearsal dinner the night before, the ceremony, and the after-party.

On the main wedding day, Kathleen created a classic middle-part low bridal bun. “The key products I used were a row of SHAE Hair clip-in extensions to conceal some of her layers and the Got2Be Glued Hairspray,” she shared. If you want to recreate the look yourself, Kathleen advises, “A very straight center-part is essential, and make sure to use a strong-hold hairspray to keep the sides in place and free of flyaways. If you have a lot of layers, add hair extensions to make the bun super clean.”
Later in the evening, “we transitioned into a fun party ponytail for the after party,” Kathleen said. Again, she kept Sofia’s hair centre-parted and sleek for a luxe take on the pony.
As for the rehearsal dinner, Kathleen had created a similar look, only she swapped out the ultra shiny sleek finish for something slightly grittier and textural to create a wet texture. She shared the details in her own TikTok post. “I really just used some oil and gel to create this look. I used the Unite U Oil and the Got2Be Glue Gel. Once I had the oil in and the gel, I just kind of pulled out some pieces on the top to give that texture – that was intentional texture,” she explained.

As for technique, “I do her bun in sections – that’s the key, in my opinion, to a really snatched bun,” she said adding, “I did a rope braid and just twisted it up into the bun that it is and pinned it.” Then for a little extra texture, “we left some pieces out over her ears which I thought was really beautiful,” Kathleen said.

We’re already excited to see what Kathleen creates next for Sofia Richie, and she’s already building hype, “honestly we switched last minute from something else, which I hope I get to do soon because that look is gonna be amazing,” Kathleen said. We’re ready when you are.
