The bride, Uong Thien, tried to compromise with her mother-in-law’s behavior, but it became too much for her and she exploded on her wedding day. According to Chinese media, Uong Thien grew up in an unhappy family, with her parents divorcing when she was young. She lived with her mother after the divorce. As a result, Uong Thien struggled in her dating life and remained single until the age of 28. It was believed that she would meet someone who could understand her, and eventually, through a meeting with a former university student, she met Tu Phong, a man who loved and accepted her for who she is.

The mother-in-law recited four family rules during the wedding, causing the bride to remove her ring and cancel the marriage (illustrated in the photo).

Despite Tu Phong’s love and care for Uong Thien, his mother was traditional and strict with her future daughter-in-law. When discussing the wedding, she demanded that Uong Thien pay for the banquet, or else the groom’s family would not provide the dowry.

Uong Thien tried to compromise, but on the wedding day, the mother-in-law’s behavior became even more unbearable, causing Uong Thien to explode.

During the wedding, Tu Phong’s mother read a prepared speech with four rules for the bride, including doing all the housework, taking good care of the groom’s parents, letting the husband be the head of the household, and giving her salary to the mother-in-law.

After the speech, the guests began to discuss, and Uong Thien looked at Tu Phong in disbelief. She was extremely disappointed and quietly removed her wedding ring, saying, “I want to get married, but I am not a weak person. These family rules make me lose my freedom and financial independence. I really don’t understand the meaning of marriage like this. If this is what marriage is like, I don’t need it.”

After speaking, Uong Thien went to the stage and took her mother to leave the wedding venue. She did not regret her decision because she believed that if she had married, her mother-in-law would have mistreated her, and Tu Phong would not have defended her, as evidenced by the family rules at the wedding. The guests also agreed that the mother-in-law’s behavior was absurd and that the relationship should not continue. They also praised Uong Thien’s reaction and handling of the situation, saying that it was better to endure the pain once than to suffer later.
