Katie Slaton, Cousin of 1000-Lb. Sisters Stars Tammy and Amy, Dies at 37 After Cancer Battle

Katie Slaton, cousin of Tammy and Amy Slaton from TLC’s 1000-Lb. Sisters and a familiar face to fans of the show, passed away Monday at age 37 following a fight with cancer.

Her death was shared by Amanda Halterman, Tammy and Amy’s older sister, who posted a heartfelt tribute on social media Tuesday. “It is with a completely crushed heart and spirit that I have to post this,” Halterman wrote. “My little cousin went to sit at the feet of Jesus yesterday. She was a force to be reckoned with, full of love that she gave freely and without judgment. She was the life of the party and my best friend.”

Halterman also asked for prayers for their extended family, especially Katie’s children and longtime partner, Natalie.

Earlier this year, Katie was diagnosed with stage 4 gastric adenocarcinoma, a rare form of stomach cancer. She spent her final days at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana, according to Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, Kentucky. Their obituary remembered her love of fishing, music, and spending time with her family and friends.

Katie is survived by her parents, Jerry and Frances Slaton; her brothers, Jeremiah and Jesse; her children, Landon, Liam, and Lily; her cousins Tammy, Amy, and Amanda and their families; and her partner, Natalie Gerrick Bailie.

Though not a main cast member, Katie made occasional but memorable appearances on 1000-Lb. Sisters, most notably during Tammy’s emotional homecoming from a rehabilitation facility in Season 5.

The series, which debuted in 2020, recently concluded its seventh season in June.
