Couple Holds Wedding Ceremony at 11,000 Meters on an Airplane, Passengers Cheer in Celebration

While flying from Australia to New Zealand, David and Cathy Valliant decided to make their wedding vows in the sky, surrounded by cheering passengers. The couple’s love story, which began online and blossomed into a beautiful relationship, culminated in a unique and unforgettable wedding ceremony aboard a Jetstar flight.

David Valliant, an Australian resident, and Cathy Valliant, who grew up in New Zealand, decided to hold their wedding ceremony on a Jetstar flight with the number 201 from Sydney (Australia) to Auckland (New Zealand). When the plane reached an altitude of over 11,000 meters, the couple exchanged their vows. A crew member officiated the ceremony, while fellow passengers witnessed the love between the newlyweds.

Cathy shared that it was a memory she would cherish for a lifetime. The couple first met in 2011 through an online game called Airport City, and two years later, they met in person when Cathy came to visit David. “Our love for aviation brought us together,” she said.

After several years of dating, David planned to propose to Cathy on a flight from Brisbane to Melbourne, but he felt too nervous to do so. “Eventually, he proposed to me later that night, when it was just the two of us,” Cathy recalled.

Dreaming of a memorable wedding, Cathy shared her idea of getting married on a plane on Jetstar’s Facebook page. “I want to celebrate our love for aviation, for our home countries of Australia and New Zealand, and for each other. So, I was determined to approach Jetstar,” she said.

Jetstar immediately agreed and planned for the special event. Jetstar representatives also sent an email to passengers about a video camera that would capture the flight, without mentioning the wedding. Passengers who did not agree to be filmed were offered a free change of flight.
