Supermodel Claudia Schiffer hit the Chanel catwalk in this little white dress in 1993.
Sofia Richie’s wedding after-party dress has received the supermodel’s seal of approval.
This past weekend, the 24-year-old model, Elliot Grainge, tied the knot in the southern region of France donning three different custom-made Chanel Haute Couture outfits for the occasion. One of the looks was a party-ready mini dress inspired by a runway look that was previously modeled by Claudia Schiffer in 1993.
On Wednesday, the 52-year-old supermodel responded to her involvement in Sofia Richie’s extravagant wedding by sharing a photo on Instagram of herself wearing the original dress and a picture of the bride’s version. In the caption, Claudia Schiffer congratulated the beautiful newlywed, Sofia Richie Grainge. Richie expressed her gratitude in the comments, saying “ah thank you !!!”
The influencer’s afterparty dress showcased a corseted bodice with one of Chanel’s iconic camellias placed front and center, which was reminiscent of Schiffer’s dress.
During her fitting, Richie expressed to Vogue, “This, to me, is like my little girl dream. And the fact that it is inspired by Claudia Schiffer’s runway dress is iconic and dope.”
A fan commented on Schiffer’s social media post, saying, “The dress is beautiful on both of you.”
“I knew I’d seen it somewhere before!! Fabulous,” another added.
Richie’s lavish wedding weekend included plenty of designer dresses.
A few fans battled it out over which star wore the look best, with one writing, “No one could wear it better than Claudia, not that dress, with that walk, she owns it.”
Another told Schiffer, “She looks so pretty but you look so freakin hot I’m not sure if worked.”
Multiple people declared the dress “iconic” and “legendary,” with one writing, “Would love to see if someone wears this look for the Met Gala this year. Definitely one of the most iconic chanel moments.”
Schiffer still wears her favorite Chanel jeans from 1993.
It is possible that their wish could be fulfilled, as the late creative director of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, will be celebrated at the upcoming ball on Monday. Claudia Schiffer, who had been a muse for Lagerfeld for many years, paid a heartfelt tribute to the designer on social media after he passed away in 2019 due to pancreatic cancer.
“Karl was my magic dust, he transformed me from a shy German girl into a supermodel,” she wrote at the time. “He is the only person who could make black and white colorful! I will be eternally grateful to him.”
