The story of Carlos Gómez del Campo Neme and Dagney Devlin Pruner is one of unexpected love and cultural fusion. Carlos, a Mexican native, never imagined falling in love with an American woman until he moved to Austin to pursue his MBA and met Dagney at a dive bar. After a year-and-a-half of dating, Carlos proposed to Dagney on a Valentine’s Day trip to Cancun. The couple then embarked on a journey to plan a wedding that would celebrate their love and honor both their cultures.

Venue

To honor Carlos’s Mexican heritage, the couple wanted a historic venue in the metro area of Mexico City for their wedding. They chose Colegio de San Ignacio de Loyola Vizcaínas, a stunning 18th-century building that provided the perfect backdrop for their 750-guest celebration.

Theme and Decor

Dagney had a very specific vision for her wedding: Mexican black-tie, Midsummer Night’s Eve. The couple chose burgundy, fuchsia, navy, and gold as their colors and incorporated them into every aspect of the wedding. The ambiance was set with navy velvet chairs, ornate gold Dolce & Gabbana flatware, and chandeliers hanging everywhere. The bride wanted the atmosphere to be so romantic that all the single people would find love that night and all the married couples would want to renew their vows.

Attire

Dagney’s personal style is casual and simple, but the grandeur of the venue called for a show-stopping gown. She chose Monique Lhuillier’s Majesty gown from Mark Ingram Atelier in New York City. Her “something borrowed” was a pair of diamond and pearl earrings lent by her best friend, and her “something blue” was embroidered into her bridal lingerie by another friend.

Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the Cathedral of Vizcainas, illuminated by candlelight. The full Catholic evening mass was conducted mostly in Spanish, with a few vows and readings in English for the American guests. The couple had gotten legally married the night before, per Mexican tradition, so they were able to enjoy the ceremony without any nerves.

Reception

After the ceremony, guests headed to the main courtyard for the reception. Personalized place cards were printed by Carlos’s sister’s company, and the five-course meal was catered by Les Croissants. The couple hired Paco de Maria and his swing band to perform during dinner and had a candy barMagnum ice cream bar station, and other food coming out every hour from 11:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

Entertainment

Guests danced the night away on a custom dance floor and changed into slippers with the wedding logo on them. Confetti fell from the ceiling at 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., and Julio of 2DJs kept the party going with a mix of Mexican songs, reggaeton, American classics, and Top 40 hits. The bride tossed her bouquet, and the wedding night continued until 7:00 a.m. due to daylight savings time.

Carlos and Dagney’s wedding was a beautiful celebration of love and cultural fusion. The event showcased the couple’s love for each other and their love for Mexico City. From the stunning historic venue to the exquisite decor, and the lively entertainment, the wedding was a true reflection of the couple’s unique personalities and backgrounds.
