In the past few days, the wedding of Vietnamese rich kid Tuyet Nhi from An Giang and her groom Samuel Lam has caused a social media storm due to the extravagant and luxurious nature of the wedding, as well as the enormous dowry exchanged by both families.
Samuel Lam was born in New York to a Chinese-American family, while Tuyet Nhi is the daughter of a wealthy businessman in An Giang, Vietnam. They met in Boston while Samuel was studying at Harvard and Nhi was studying at the University of Houston in Texas, USA.
At the time, Nhi was visiting her best friend in Boston when she coincidentally met Samuel at a bar. With the help of their mutual friend, they started getting to know each other and gradually became closer.
After 5 years of dating, the couple moved in together through a wedding in New York, USA (their city of residence), and An Giang (where the bride was born).
Their New York wedding was featured on Brides – a prestigious American wedding magazine.
For their wedding in the US, they chose an outdoor venue to showcase the blue sky, which was the theme of their wedding. Of course, the dominant color of the wedding was also the bride and groom’s desired sky blue.
The venue was the rooftop of the Envue hotel, which offered a panoramic view of the entire New York City.
The couple’s wedding invitations were custom-made in Vietnam, with a sky blue envelope lining and a horizon line of Manhattan.
With the sky-themed wedding, they chose colors of navy blue, cream, gray, and white for the ceremony.
The wedding space was decorated with a white stage and walkway. The aisle was open arches with reflective blue and white hydrangea flowers to reflect the sky. Everything was simple, elegant, and beautiful. 100% of the flowers used were fresh.
Bride Tuyet Nhi wanted everything on her big day to be natural, comfortable, and intimate.
The wedding began with the tea ceremony – a traditional ritual in the marriage culture of the Chinese people. The bride and groom wore traditional Chinese costumes and served tea to the parents of both sides. This is a way for the bride and groom to show their respect for the family and elders. The parents of both sides also show their approval of the wedding by giving gifts to the couple. The tea ceremony symbolizes the combination of the two families.
During the official wedding ceremony, Tuyet Nhi walked down the aisle with a little boy and girl carrying her wedding dress.
“Samuel and I both teared up when I walked down the aisle towards him,” Tuyet Nhi shared with Brides.
For this wedding, Tuyet Nhi wore a wedding dress adorned with 1000 crystals from designer Do Long. This dress was inspired by the sky, butterflies, and blue ribbons and took 30 days for the designer and his team to complete this special piece.
In the beautiful space and with the gorgeous weather and vast blue sky, Tuyet Nhi and Samuel Lam had a dreamlike wedding with the presence of 222 guests who were relatives and friends of both sides.
After the ceremony, the reception was held immediately and was also impeccably organized. The planning team created white cloud centerpieces using baby’s breath on each round table. Hanging in mid-air were hundreds of small glass birds, creating a delicate and ethereal effect.
Just like the outdoor stage, the green hues from the flowers and sky blue dishware were adorned against a white background for a striking effect.
The bride and groom’s private dining area was decorated with images of the night sky, with a crescent moon made of baby’s breath flowers and countless small stars.
The couple then had their first dance. The bride also secretly practiced the dance to the Korean music group Wonder Girls’ song “Nobody” with her husband’s close friends to surprise him at the wedding.
With Tuyet Nhi and Samuel Lam’s wedding in New York, Brides magazine gave high praise: “The wedding with its navy blue and white color scheme created a grand and stunning backdrop.”
Perhaps, this is also the dream wedding for many girls who are struggling to find inspiration for their own big day.
