Vince Staples Gushes Over 1,000-Lb Sisters: “That’s Real Cinema”
Vince Staples is proving he’s not just a music fan — he’s also a passionate reality TV lover. The rapper recently confessed that he’s completely hooked on TLC’s hit show 1,000-Lb Sisters, calling it nothing less than “real cinema.”
During an appearance on The Old Man and the Three podcast, Staples opened up about his admiration for the series, which follows sisters Amy Slaton-Halterman and Tammy Slaton as they navigate their weight loss journeys, family life, and all the challenges in between.
According to Staples, the show stands out among all reality TV programs — scripted or not. “Have you seen 1,000-Lb Sisters? Let’s talk about real cinema,” he said enthusiastically. “Tammy is a little bit bigger than Amy, and then their brother Chris and their other sister — fire. I’m talking about they stars, bro.”
Staples didn’t stop there. He went on to praise the Slaton family’s authenticity and unfiltered dynamic, calling the show “the best weight loss show, the best family show, and the best non-scripted show.”
“As far as entertainment value, it’s not even close,” Staples added. “It’s not salacious, they’re not making fun of each other, it’s not demeaning — and when they do go at each other, it’s hilarious. Like, ‘Shut your fat ass up.’ ‘No, you shut your fat ass up, bitch.’”
For Staples, the sisters’ honesty, humor, and heart make 1,000-Lb Sisters more than just another TLC show — it’s television at its purest form.
“TV Don’t Exist No More”
Ironically, Staples’ admission that he’s a fan of 1,000-Lb Sisters came right after he declared that television doesn’t exist anymore. The rapper explained that he doesn’t own a TV and rarely watches anything from start to finish — not even sports.
“I’ll see like five minutes of a game here, three minutes there,” he said. “You gotta think, bro, TV don’t exist no more. So how are you watching these games? […] I’ve never watched anything on my phone. I wouldn’t watch a music video. I wouldn’t watch a video somebody sent me on my phone […] Bro, I don’t have TV — and if you don’t have TV, there’s nothing on. I got that ‘Hulu Has Live Sports’ thing? There ain’t no live sports on Hulu, bro.”
Still, despite his claims that TV is dead, Staples admits there are two exceptions to his rule: he watches Family Feud daily and tunes in to Next Level Chef whenever it airs.
So while Vince Staples might say TV “doesn’t exist,” it’s clear 1,000-Lb Sisters — and a good dose of Steve Harvey — still have a place in his viewing habits.
