Viewers will witness an emotional moment in Welcome to Plathville season 7 as Kim Plath watches her daughter, Lydia, search for the perfect wedding gown.

In the episode set to air on TLC on August 26, Lydia tries on the very same dress her mother wore decades ago when she married her now-estranged husband, Barry Plath.

“Seeing my old wedding dress instantly brings Barry to mind,” Kim admitted. “A wedding gown should symbolize new beginnings, not divorce — but right now, that’s what it makes me think of.”

Kim officially filed for divorce on June 26, 2024, two years after her separation from Barry.

“But if Barry and I had never gotten married,” Kim continued, “we wouldn’t have the wonderful children we share today — and they’re all such amazing people.”

Kim and Barry are parents to nine children: Lydia, Hosanna, Ethan, Micah, Moriah, Isaac, Amber, Caria, and Mercy. Their youngest son, Joshua, tragically passed away in 2008 after a farm accident.

Trying on the 30-year-old dress was an even more special experience for Lydia, who recalls wanting to wear her mom’s heirloom her “whole life.” She added, “You see pictures of it growing up, and you see the box it’s in. There’s a beautiful dress in there.”

The clip shows the bride-to-be fulfilling her wishes and beaming in the vintage ensemble, which featured rosette adornments along the off-the-shoulder silhouette, a cinched bodice, embellished sleeves, and a skirt cascading into a half-circle train.

“I love the waist,” says Lydia as she looks at herself in the mirror, while Kim watches on with a smile.

In a confessional, 15-year-old Amber, the third youngest Plath sibling, jokes that her mom’s dress is “beautiful” — but something that “you’d wear like 400 years ago. Medieval, almost.”

ydia tied the knot with her husband, Zac Wyse, on February 22 — only two months after their engagement. The couple had been dating for six months before exchanging vows in a heartfelt ceremony at the Plath family farm, surrounded by 115 loved ones.

Sharing details of the ceremony with PEOPLE, Lydia said she chose a “white gown with the perfect balance of lace and sparkle, while remaining very light and flowy.”

“What made me choose this dress was how it fit my personality,” she shared. “It wasn’t just my choice, but many people who were there when I tried it on agreed that the dress was very much me. It’s a dress that makes me feel free and graceful.”

And while Lydia may not have chosen to rewear her mom’s archival look, she did recycle one precious token from her parents’ nuptials. As a part of their menu, Lydia and Zac chose a strawberry cheesecake with the dessert decorated with her mom and dad’s cake topper.
