7 Little Johnstons star Anna Johnston grew distant from her family after conflicts arose with her parents, Trent and Amber Johnston. As rumors of family tension spread, fans are eager to know what happened to Anna and what caused the rift.

What Did Anna Johnston Do on 7 Little Johnstons?

Season 15 of 7 Little Johnstons revealed escalating issues between Anna and her parents. She attended the same college as her mother, and both were set to graduate at the same time.

However, Anna admitted that having her mother attend the same school negatively affected her college experience, ultimately making her want to skip walking the stage at graduation.

“It felt like a competition with me,” she explained in a confessional during episode 9. “Definitely the honors stuff, asking multiple times, ‘Well, what’s your grades? Why are you not in there?’ … It took away from my college experience, and I just didn’t want to celebrate it with her.”

7 Little Johnstons Star Amber Johnston Shared a Different Perspective on the Anna Drama

As a mother of five, Amber acknowledged that the tension with her daughter was “tough” and pointed out the cycle of Anna’s whirlwind emotions.

“We’re tired of going along with Anna’s ‘snap out of it,’ and then we have maybe three, four, maybe five weeks if we’re lucky of Anna being happy and wanting to be around the family,” Amber explained. “Then we get right back into Anna hating every one of us and not speaking to us. We’re tired of playing that game.”

7 Little Johnstons Star Anna Johnston Addressed the Drama With Her Parents

Anna told producers that the tension with her parents stemmed from a “bunch of random little things” that kept “piling up.”

“I’m supposed to be OK with it, ignore it, and just act like it didn’t happen,” she explained in a teaser for the season 15 finale shared by Access Hollywood. “Or like, stuff is said behind my back, or they go to other people to ask about me—that s–t gets to me. If you want to know about my life, then talk to me.”

Anna visited her parents during the season 15 finale, which aired on March 11, 2025. The interaction was more than awkward as even her siblings could pick up on the tension.

“I think Anna and Mom and Dad may have gotten into an argument or something, and maybe that’s why Anna’s distancing herself from the family,” Anna’s brother, Alex Johnston, said in a confessional. “But at this point in time, I really don’t know why she’s distancing herself.”

Anna shared her perspective in a confessional, revealing that how things appeared on the outside was far from what actually happened at home with her family.

“From the outside, it looks like my family is very welcoming, and I am not being very [welcoming] back,” Anna told the cameras. “But when my parents get mad at me, they’ll stay mad at me for however long they want. Then, when they’re finally over it and decide they want to talk to me, they expect me to just forget about it.”
